| I'm Dan, I just turned 40. I started in traditional martial arts when I was 15 until my mid 20's. I have also done some boxing and currently train in BJJ and Muay Thai. I am a former US Marine and also worked the door for "adult" nightclubs in Hawaii and Las Vegas as well as some other security work when I was younger. Currently I am working as a casino executive. I really enjoy Richard and Bob's material so I joined the forum to see what else I can learn. | |

| hello Higgy,
looking forward to some of you anecdotes too.
i'm impressed that you were able to actually leave Hawaii. i've known at least one guy that settled for living rough, just to stay--eventually making a good living in roofing.

| Just thought I'd stop in and say hello I've been following and watching a lot of Richie's stuff on youtube for a while now, so i figured I'd get in here so I may converse with you awesome peeps I've been into martial arts for most of my life (I've done years of karate and kick boxing) however, as you all well know, the rules and technique of those studies go out the window in an urban, street, environment...that's why I'm here anyways, good day to all | |

| Thanks guys I currently live in vancouver, bc, canada. It's a bit of a sleepy city, but we have great weather. The rest of the country is either cold and raining or snowing, and here it's sunny and about 15 celsius. Vancouver and the 'lower mainland' (surrounding suburbs) isn't the worst I've seen for gang/street violence but it's no picnic either. especially out in Surrey... anyways, I'm off to work, have a great day/eve everyone! | |

| Hi guys, my name is Duncan and i live in Liverpool UK.
I teach and study Historical European Martial Arts for the EHCG. You can have a look at who we are here...
www.ehcg.net
I am 37 and have tried many different martial arts but could not find one that suited me. I then found HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts), which is so wide in scope and historically new (In terms of modern day practice) that it gave me the freedom I needed to study a martial art without being pinned down by too much politics, doctrine etc etc. I played Rugby for many years, which could be classed as a martial art, it certainly hurts like one... :-)
We mainly study historical weapons, but there is hand to hand in there too. The areas I am most proficient in is Longsword, Staff (pole-arms), Sword and shield and partly dagger. As we deal allot in principles, body mechanics and weapon mechanics I can teach at least a basic level in allot of other weapons, but these are the ones I feel I have good handle on.
I am most definitely still a student as well as a teacher as so much of what we do is lost to history so we study like crazy, swap ideas, talk to other martial arts etc to try to re-construct the lost European martial arts. Hence how I found Rich and this place. So any ideas, swapping of information etc would be great, and maybe we can give you guys an new perspective on an age old problem. How to win a fight and how to stay alive in combat.
Sorry for going on but I have to add that what we study is combat in all it forms, from one on one to mass battle. For logistical reasons we can study one on one much more easily than battle. We are a martial arts group, not a re-enactor group. Nothing wrong with what they do but we study just the combat and fighting from European history in as realistic a way as possible (This means no rules and doing what it takes to get the job done. In a safe way of course). :-)
Thanks Duncan | |

| Thanks, I did not want to come across as some sort of nerd, it's all info we use to study historical weapons, techniques etc etc, and if a show like that makes people go out and find out more, great, but I think it will mainly leave people with allot of duff information. Anyway thanks for the welcome.

| Greetings.
My screen-name is Lustâhn, and I'm a 17-year-old Norwegian student.
I have 6 years of Wado-Ryu Karate experience, and I'm heavily influenced by RBSD and Muay Thai.
I really appreciate what you're doing here to help people, and I find this website (and its YouTube counter-part) to be invaluable. I hope to purchase some of your DVDs once I gain enough money to do so.

Thanks, Russel. I just ordered "The Basic Starter Pack" earlier today. Once I've absorbed the DVDs and mastered the NLP techniques provided, I'll probably try "The Shredder", which seems like an excellent equalizer against grapplers.

| Interesting place the internet.
After watching the trailer clips for Eddie Quinn's latest project I thought I'd watch a few of the youtube suggested links which can usually be relied on for cheap laughs at the expense of yellow bamboo stylists peddling "ULTIMATE REAL SECRET LETHAL MARTIAL ARTS MURDER DEFENCE" and the like. How surprised I was to see guys doing things which look similar to what I've been up to for the last eight years instead.
On following the bread crumbs I find a ton of useful looking videos and a website with talk of combative applications for NLP. Thinking to myself "I'd like to subscribe to this man's newsletter" I find a forum, so here I am.
My training has mainly been the usual suspects; Eskrima/Wing Chun/Muay Thai but I've played with various other things and started doing BJJ properly about 18 months ago. Thankfully I've only had to use it properly a few times but am keen to make sure that should I ever have to use it again it will continue to actually work to some degree.
The only quality I seek in pies is that they contain neither seafood nor quorn as fish live in the World's toilet and mycoprotein is a fungus originally engineered for the useless eaters to consume during a predicted food shortage.

| welcome mate. make yourself at home, you're in a good place for knowledge sharing. that bit about seafood makes me laugh. my mum, or one of her friends--can't remember now as it's sealed in the family lore, were at the sea side watching a cadavar dredged in. it was covered in shrimp--apparently the roaches of the ocean. it was enough to put me off my sweet/sour jumbo shrimp. i dug deeper and discovered large cray fish [lobster] reside at the edge of sewer ducts--practical little shelly shits that they are. it made me wonder why we [queen's 'we'] simply cut out the middle man and stick our collective heads straight into the toilet. worse still is the memory of swimming from a boat in Turkey--and noticing the odd dumpling like mounds floating by as i dove into the abyss. at some point my denial no longer stood behind the reigns of my thought patterns...they were collosal toilet paper mounds dumped from the vacationing tourist boats. my dad and the crew were eating the fruit of the sea from their collective fishing efforts [loads of little fish; an octopus; etc] and i was strictly vegetarian. if memory serves my staple was the national beer, and some recurring eggplant and tomatoe dish that went well with whatever cod-n-chips, well...going to have to lunch in the lou a few more years over that one
