PostSubject: How do you train?   How do you train? EmptyWed Apr 30, 2008 10:11 pm

I thought it would be interesting to see how everyone trains, whether its in clubs or on their own.

currently i am not in a RBSD club, unfortunately that had to come to an end

I do Judo 1-2 times per week

I do 2 strength based sessions in the gym per week

i try to do 1 session of bag work or pad work/sparring per week if possible

also i try and get in one hard conditioning session per week based around crossfit/ross enamitt style training

At the moment, I am just getting back into training after a forced vacation due to a little trip to the hospital to remove my gall bladder which had taken upon itself to begin dying inside of me.
As a result I have started small, just some dumbbell curls. Hope to get back to a more comprehensive weight training program in the near future using free weights and a 100 lb sandbag.
Combative’s training prior to surgery consisted of twice weekly one on one sessions with my instructor, who utilizes a lot of Senshido principles. Training was as full contact as safety would allow. In another six weeks to two months, when I am sure I am good and strong inside again, I will be going back to that.

I train on the bags, B.O.B., and do a lot of weapons traning. I keep my workouts simple, quick, and fight specific IE burpees, chirpees, crunches, reverse crunches, 2 minute slow pushups, batfinks, sprints and jogs, etc,. Nice setup you have Pike, is that your home or a gym?

ususal stuff

if at home and training alone

circuit training:

shadow boxing (sportive) w/visualisation

shadow fighting (that sounds so "ninja"!) w/visualisation

both slotted into the circuit in 15 -30 second all out aggressive bursts

jumping squats

leg swings

push ups w/handles

burbees

squat thrusts

single clean and press with dumbell

plank

crunches on ball

jackknives

chest press on ball

flyes on ball

lateral raises

bicep curls

thai switchstep and punches

skipping

hard chi kung, sometimes with weights

always with a heart rate monitor and usually go till i get 1000 calories burnt, takes an hour and 10 at my current level of fitness (been off because of my gippy knee)... there is ntothing special about the number 1000 i just find that psychologically its nice to have a goal and to know when you can stop

this should go in the physical training section What a Face

My stuff.

When alone:

Start off with stretching for 15 minutes.

Some "Senaman Tua" (literally "Old Exercises"), a Silat equivalent of yoga for 15 minutes.

Weight training. Though not the usual kind. I use "hammers" as I call it, which is a basic dumbell but with 15 kilogram weights on only ONE end, held like a hammer and swung like a knife. Good for the wrists, arm and grip strength.

You probably won't believe this, but after that I play "chapteh", a south-east asian equivalent of hacky sack, alone for around 15 minutes to warm up my legs.

This is chapteh.

this is jackie chan playing it.

Crunches after that.

Then I do variations of low and mid kicks for as long as I can. Which is around 15-30mins. Can't do much after that though. I busted by left kneecap open (fracture and torn ligament) once when an angry customer I escorted out of my club turned at me at heel-kicked me with his shiny new boots.

After that, 20 jabs left hand, 20 jabs right times 100 (with 5kilo wristweights).

Shadow fighting.

Mirror fighting and evasion. This it to notice the small little tell-tale movements before I strike and how to hide, if not eliminate them. Evasion, because some evasive techniques look like they're good, when viewed from the side or from a spectator's point of view but straight up front it might seem questionable. (I think maybe headcams during sparring sessions are a great idea. 1st-person-view fight videos could be all the new rage, don't you think so?)

Cool down excercises after that (more senaman tua).

It's the showers after that. Average time spent doing it all amounts to 2 to 2 half hours.

PostSubject: Re: How do you train?   How do you train? EmptyThu May 01, 2008 8:03 pm

lately--time permitting:

monday--run;stretch
technique reps for form--with a partner so my kicks/punch/etc has meaning--sometimes partner moves without countering
going through some pre-fight build up/wind up dynamics

tuesday--run;stretch
resistance--pullups; knuckle push-ups; pad-work--rep range medium so that i can maintain power while building stamina
no partner necessary--but often one is available

thursday--sort of a repeat of monday--but isolating several favorite techniques that i want to engrain more deeply [small run & stretch]

friday--sort of a repeat of tuesday--but isolating several favorite techniques that i want to engrain more deeply as this reflects the pad-work. otherwise, same pull-ups, knuckle push-ups in circuit minimum break fashion (three rounds)[small run & stretch]

physically horsing around with whoever is willing, as long as we both trust each other and it is based on something we'd use, or try to develope...this happens once or twice (maximum) in a week. sometimes not at all.

-rus

* i live for the pad work; feeling like you are really letting go.

Busy these days but still manage to do some of the following

Now doing a non failure, high frequency strength routine takes about 20 mins aday 5 times a week (Focusing on Bench, deadlift and weighted chin), been getting good results.

Quick Circuits (Kettlebell swings/Snatch, burpees, press ups) takes about 10 mins

High repetition bodyweight squats and lunges

GTG Pull ups, one legged squats (Non failure, done through out the day)

Skill session normally look like this :

-Bag/pad work (Usually start with 50 lefts, 50 right, 50 One-two, 50 One-two-three, 50 left upper cut right cross, 50 right upper cut left cross, 50 right hammer fist-left straight, 50 right straight-left hammer fist then whenever the pad holder presents the pad bang with a right cross, 50 times.)

-Partner drill: stiff arm anti takedowns, sprawls, sticky hand drills, push hand drills, stand up and ground grappling etc.

-Sparring depending on the day.

-Go for rounds on the bag or pads, then all out 1 min or 30 secs blasting 1-2 on the pads or bag.

-Fitness: high repetition burpees, press ups, squats, lunges, sit ups, wheelbarrow (Partner holds legs you walk with hands), kettlebell swings, snatch, turkish get up. Done in circuit fashion

Gains? To your waist line I take it, no wonder you've got problems with a dodgy knee mate!?
