we've done this thread...but tastes change [songs], etc... i can't remember if it was in psych. but i'm approaching the terrain as such. music does something deep, i think i remember Richie mentioning about base or drums or whatever raising people's neck hairs [pre-fight], but if i misquoted--sorry mate.
this one song strikes a chord for me--for several reasons. the beat...the disturbing chorus that is sort of slow/sadistic/insane... and the pace which reeks of, 'i'm walking over there, picking my teeth, scratching my ass, looking at a bird...then killing you when i get there'.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJbDvAMORr8&NR=1
i may have mentioned this before, but i'm under the impression people play there favorite songs on the 'way-to-fights', if the luxory of time exhists. i was near a shooting once and for about a month i gathered the pieces my subconscious was taking in. the car drove up; three or four in the car; passage-seat in the front was really getting into his 'groove' as if a characature for the beats and words. i didn't think anything of it in a city that loves to 'stand-out'. i got about 50 yards away and heard the steady lower caliber repetitive cracks--followed by the image of a kid that had simply been playing in the wrong playground, running past me and looking back only after he had cleared enough distance [smart]. i slowly worked in reverse back to that song and what it was doing for him. it stuck with me--psychologically speaking.

Absolutely. Music that has the attitude you'd like to exude definitely taps into something primal.
Throughout my child hood and teens I played rep league ice hockey and nothing got me going more before a game than listening to something in my own headphones in the dressing room like Metallica's 'Master of Puppets.' During the warm ups (where you skate around and stretch to limber up) they didn't used to have any music playing, but then they got with the times. The first time they did they started with ACDC's 'Thunderstruck' and then into Offspring's 'come out and play'. I never skated so fast in the warm up before!! haha, it really got me going.
A couple of great workout songs I've recently discovered are Linkin Park's 'Points of Authority' and Slipknot's 'psychosocial'. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NrO83v6X8lI

hmmm...nasty, demented, feverish; iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii like it!
Music basically sets the tone, emotionally. That seems to be where it's all at with music. A state management tool. Scince loud noise is involved, people seem to use it as a posturing prop at times as well. They think something sounds cool so they try to become cool by association by playing it loud, mostly for others to hear.

yeah, i'm always just curious... my favorite subjects are centered around how people train, or as you said, what one does in training. we're all so varied in background, yet obviously share commonalities.
l lean toward scenario drills, OCD like pad work--and blasting, i hate running so i sort of try and get myself spent [cardio] in striking drills where someone is being moved back. i tend to only run if there's a kebab cart rolling down the hill and no one manning it--for the spoils of course. this sadly doesn't occur much...well never really. but one can always hope.

i get you! lol, right were to begin!
fitness training :- *running - which is suicide runs, hill sprints *stretching *restistance bands - work everything with these and daily i work punches with them. i LOVE explosive punches *weights - i like to keep strong but hate getting MASSIVE as ive found that int he past its just sapped me of strength in sparring. *body weight exercises - my BREAD AND BUTTER. i do a lot of parkour conditioning training. with this there are crawls both flat and on stairs. crawl down the stairs face first and then back up backwards. involves explosive strength in order to do jumps and such. one my fav drills is to grab a rail about waist height with both ands and then bounce back and forth over it. HIGH reps!!!
combat training :-
ive always cross trained really. my dad always did it and brought me and my brother to do the same. i've drawn from differnt styles to make myself as rounded as poss. im very JKD minded in terms of using what works and keeping it simple.
when im training we do * stand up days - boxing, kickboxing, various kung fu styles. on bags, heavy bags, focus pads, apps and sparring * grappling days - submission wrestling and judo. (Gi and NOGi) * clinch days - working the transition between ranges and fighting from the clinch * weaopns - basically kali and improvised weapons * situation work - 1-on-1, 2-on-1, 3-0n-1 OR gang attack some times throwing a knife in, knife grappling, protect a friend

sounds well rounded. the parkour stuff interests me. i used to do alot of body conditioning until i hurt my back, so it changed the way i trained--sort of more scrimmage than laps now. that got me into scenario drills more--but as such required that i do these more often. i've gotten really fond of head controls, but mostly center my routines around striking and bursting--using headcontrols as a finishing bit to set me up for using my legs on a downed person.
thanks for the thorough response.

Hey guys,
This is my band Infractor's latest video...It was done for free by some media students but the song is pretty brutal and great for aggressive training!
If you want to download this track for free and hear more then go to:

Listening to Nasty Habits totally made me think of these - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ncaO9tgHMxc And of course https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yMMWxxV9tJI
In terms of "power song" I seem to prefer this type of music. Inspires a strange calm but intense aggressive state. Possibly just blunt sadism associated to it from watching too much nasthy shit on the net while listening to it.
And next thing I know I'm sitting back, chilling with this below stuff.

funny stuff music. sometimes thuggish stuff can strike a core, sort of tribal war beats of the boo yaa tribe kind. i've seen what a power song can do for thugs, what it does for weightlifters, what it does for training in the martial arts. hell, i've even seen a martial arts school do forms to music, although i must say they looked like stark raving idiots but i'm sure it's because my formal training was about quietly taking sensei's abuse and loving it .
regarding songs that build confidence prepare one for battles or various sorts. whilst the obvious heavy metal and rap stuff comes up, i've also found it's antithesis to be true. songs so syrup'y sweet and gentle that they sort of serve as a wind up, from the peace and comfort--that gets disturbed and lashes out [incensed] the other direction. looking for metaphors, sometimes it helps. like being at a peaceful place and suddenly thugs come in...you are so incensed that you were finally feeling peace that you are prepared to have them feel that level of insult in kind. i've felt things like this coming back from the mountains, where everything was: safe; doors left open; walking in the middle of the road without having to look.
when i re-entered the city, i wasn't ready to put back on my 'shit'robe'. i wanted to remain quiet and left alone. i was more edge now, then before i left. does that explain why this next song sort of actually serves to put my head in the right place for fighting. because if it doesn't, i've just run out of metaphors and analogies, etc... and it's a lost cause, suffice to say that this song sort of does it for me. innocense that shouldn't be tampered with. or said another way, i finally feel peaceful and you want to f^&k with that? yes i know i'm contrary, no news there
