i think it would be fair to say that ... Effect = Deception+ Shot Placement + Power
isnt deception only useful before its all gone physical? and surely shot placement shouldnt be relied on after its gone ballistic. hence it ultimately falls back to power.
but yeah for pre-emptive strikes i guess deception is key. but if this is our main focus then how have we progressed from what was taught in this field 15 yrs ago? ie all the focus on pre-emptive strikes and brain engagement.

wasnt really talking about deception in the video but its interesting you interpreted it at that way... yes shot placement SHOULD be relied upon after its gone ballistic! wasnt there a massive thread about this on the GT forum? ah, thems where the days

Power is effectively useless if you havent got the precision to hit the target and in the right place. I understand why you want to go through the motion slowly, to become fluid and also like you say, to get a feel of the pressure's/resistance of the target, flesh and bone etc and what you should be feeling in a good connected strike. And as for the last section (40sec's or so) getting it in to your nerology its like learning a piece of music (im a guitarist so we'll say a guitar lick) you'd learn it at a really slow speed so there's no mistakes in the lick, then by playing it over and over you keep your precision and the speed will come naturally as it sinks in to your brain and muscle memory.

relied upon or just seen as a realistic possibility if one puts in a lot of time training for it?

nearly mate...
you can only RELY on skills that one has "put a long time in training for" ... there is NOTHING else
(this may be different to the point of view I had when we met in London, but a LOT has happened in the last 2 years and Ive had a lot of martial arts residual "mung" beaten out of me plus Ive had more time to do more of my own research)

also
the main thrust of the point im trying to make here is that power alone is futile without skillful shot placement and skill
and that you have to fight for your right to land your favoured shot
really I see that many people have got stuck in a bit of a "power trap" in their training... more and more power does not equal more and more "effect" of fighting capability
skillful application is much more important than power, though without any power its effing useless too

i really like this ...hit before they're prepared to tense up stuff... i have a nice muscle memory experience from it, it came from the way i used to keep my hands low and sort of punch up without alot of muscle tension. i still drool over the thwack-head-back thingy (inward exocist giggle happening now). but not from the street. from when i was a new-bie 'brownbelt' in shotokan, sparring a flashy dickhead 'blackbelt' before a prestigious tournament. i know it was only sport, but it still feels really yummy to re-live.

The shot u don't see coming is the one that does the most damage(it depends) what good is power if u don't land ur shot hit ur target? Ergo the importance of not telegraphing ur intention, accuracy , and economy of movement (Xmove)

That's like spending all ur time hitting the heavy bag and neglecting the double end bag or sparring Common sense to crawl, before u walk, before u run W

Oh, thank you thank you thank you!! This is the first of your videos where you talk about the disadvantage women have and how to overcome this disadvantage.
What I got from your video is two things: don't telegraph/preemptive strike and for a woman because this is something I know I need to work on. Acutally hit a human, even if it isn't at full force learn what it feels like to hit a human head, and practice the follow through with each slow motion shot. That way I get the muscle memory even if it is slowed down.
Let me know if that is what you are saying in the video. Or if I am missing something more!!
