I thought number one was idiotic. Obviously never used it. Run in from 10 feet & launch. Does he have any idea of the forces involved? A headbutt as a long range weapon? Fantasist. Lovely watching his legs get started for the run up. Run up & then sloooooow doooown before hitting target. Yes, very powerful. Look at my belt.
It didnt look like the head touched on Russel Stutely vid, thought it was a shoulder barge. (I like them!) Anyway, seemed to generate a great deal of power. Loose punching was interesting. How come he doesnt catch his thumb?
I tend not to practise headbutts cos height makes it an unreliable technique for me. I have to stoop too low. Close in knife defence when I dont have a hand free, then yeah, its an extra limb, especially to pull them onto you as you drive forward. Had them used against me twice, both times I pulled my head back far enough they missed. Seen more than a few land round here, devastating blow when landed right. Major pain if not done right & collision occurs. Seen that too.

First video made me laugh. I've always thought of headbutts as a close quarters type weapon, not a running or flying headbutt. Then Blackops posts a video of some guy using it and effectively too.
Second video was fun to watch, there was no wave form in the headbutt and only partial in the punch. Look at his back foot, it didn't turn properly for full wave form. Still good power and targeting and produced good results. I'd like to know what material that is he's punching.

This is an interesting thread. I come from a school of CQC where we never trained the head butt (for obvious reasons). Its not a technique i would think of using but then again you never know it does have its place in certain situations.

i'm a little guilty of being fixated on head butts--in non sports, i've done the side quick flicky thing because so many people just don't see it coming. in training i've used it, alot, into the solar plexus of taller folk--but here i'm just dipping my head and coming in like a retarded billy goat [sort of a morphed elevation drive to recreate range and forward movement.
what i really like about headbutts in general is the mind association with it, most people are spending so much time [rightfully] protecting that control tower, it still is a stigma breaker to actually come on with the message, "i came to get a little hurt, but ultimately to make you hurt more". if that makes any sense to anyone but me or even worse--if you can make them believe this deranged state, "this is like sex to me...not the nice kind, the sort where you feel violated and ashamed after" oops, i've said too much. no more late night prison movies for me

in riot gear, one can see how effective it would be--too bad about this bloke doing as much to an elderly woman.

In some cultures, the head butt as a weapon was enhanced through adaptions too armour.
Take this legionaire's helmet for example. See the strip crossing the brow of the helmet? This would have helped to stop a blade sliding down towards the face , as well.
