| Hey guys
Just thought id share a story of what happened to me last night and get some opinions - So yeah basically i was Dj'ing in a club last night which i have done so for about 5 or so years now on and off with no real issues until now. Guy in crowd out of the blue just decides to continually give me the finger and revving himself up to fight me showing all the usual signs of real anger towards me and pointing me out to his mates, which there was about 6 of in total. I was standing quite a distance away from this guy on the dj stage so at no real time did i feel really threatened just a real awkward feeling in what the hell do i do to stop this guy? there were no bouncers in sight so getting him kicked out wasent really an option, approaching the guy seemed like a pretty silly idea too. I was the last dj on and only had to play for another 5 or so minutes so i just had to wait and see what was going to happen when the music turns off. His friends dragged him away off the dance floor when the club closed and he was no where to be seen after. So was this just a case of him trying to look tough to his mates ?? with no real desire of fighting me ? and is there anything i could of done to stop him ?? because basically i was just trying to ignore him due to not making a big scene and staying professional doing my job.

| the looking hard in front of his mates sounds about right. as bob said forget about the clown. What always makes me laugh is the guy who really wants to hurt you but can't seem to get past his 8 stone girlfriend, damn those girls are strong !! | |

| He wanted to look tough.
He could have picked anyone to fight but he picked you, someone that he could not easily get to.
If he really wanted to fight he would have picked someone on the floor where he was.

| had a similar situation recently. The band I was in was sound checking for a gig in a rough rock pub. Used to be my old stomping ground for many years do home turf really. The drummer was asked to play round his kit. Round the Toms he goes, then into a big beat with plenty of fills. When he finished some piss head in front of the stage area pipes up, "think you're fuckin clever do you? playing like that. showing off. I'll shove those sticks up your fuckin arse." scowl scowl, grr, grr. we ignored him and flew into a couple of songs. Drummer is not a tough lad. He's a junior student of mine but would have been out matched. I wouldn't have been much use with over a grands worth of guitar on. Fortunately the singer is a giant of a man and would have swatted the fella. Was strange though. in 20 years of gigging I've never seen unprovoked shit like that in a sound check. I've been in a few suprise scraps after gigs because some lad's girlfriend was making doe eyes as I worked my magic on the fret board. Like it's my fault she's captivated by my expert finger movement | |

| I started playing guitar 1987, aged 14. I started gigging jan 1990, just before I turned 17 by the time I was 21 I was getting pretty good. I'd been in enough scraps that when the opportunity was offered to me to learn how to look after myself, I knew I had to take it.
I still train with the same guy nearly 15 years later and we co run a club together.
Trust me, a gigging guitarist is a target for every inadequate nut job with a chip on their shoulder and a jealous streak.

| ...so you're the bloke that wins his girl and gives him a thrashing... cheeky i love being around music--off topic now, but the music is a serious mood raiser (better or worse). i think everyone who wants to cause trouble sees themselves suddenly in their own MTV macho man music video . it doesn't surprize me you had to watch your back and learn to deal with it. good on ya' "finger movement" ...cheeky | |

| yep you're right. that's me. Never had much trouble converting my stage shows into private performances. 5'8" and used to be stick thin with it (little bit of muscle developed over the last few years but still light build) aged 35 but still look well in my twenties usually sporting a cheeky grin and a twinkle in my eye. (happily married now you understand) a bit of a show off, but I hope not TOO cocky. You stick me in front of 5000 people with a guitar on and I'll play, sing and jump around. take my guitar off me and point me at a dance floor and watch me tremble and bolt for a dark corner to hide in. I have found in 22 years of playing guitar a very large percentage of musicians I've know have been active martial artists. It really is a simple fact that women swoon a bit (if you're any good of course) and their fellas pick a fight with you. In fact they don't always have to have a girlfriend to get the hump with you. They can just be eyeing a girl up in the bar and she's watching you play rather than looking back at him and that can be enough. Then you've got dodgy club owners / landlords who don't want to pay you. Occassional doormen who don't like sharing the limelight. | |
