| KB's are great. I've found three basic exercises; the two hand swing, turkish getups and long cycle clean/press can give you great results in functional strength increases... add some neck and abdominal work and you're set. Many folk use KB snatches as one of their basic exercises, I never liked them much and found the above works for me as a good basis for conditioning. What sort of routines are you doing? | |

| im doing just the 3 exercises that Loki showed me while he was over in London
1.swing 2.clean and press 3.swing
he tried to get me to do turkish get up, but with 20 kg I just couldnt hack it-lol!
then in between the sets of KB im doing normal stuff like burpees, shadowboxing, pressups etc
I find that KB keep your heart rate higher for longer after the set is finished, so overall as part of a circuit it really accelerates your return on investment ie you get lots more calories burned in a shorter time frime

| Glad you posted this Richard. Been looking to get one from Made4Fighters.com for a while now -allbeit I will buy from Wu now as I greatly admire people who focus on a product and really aim to provide a good service with it. Went into my local supplement/body building shop in Brighton yesterday only to find they don't stock any for me to gauge what weight I need. What weight is yours? Is it best to opt for one that feels heavy or light for you? Where can I see a list of exercises for kettlebells? -EDIT just read the website no need to answer now So many questions I first got interested in kettles when I heard that the main actor for 300 trained with one using it to build sword arm strength. | |

| I occasionally use my friends KB's. Often I just replicate the KB movements with DBs, since DBs are available every gym that I go to. | |

| Rich, i have been using the kb's for a while now try doing swings but release the kb at its highest point of the swing and catch with your other hand straight into the swing again. this will work your fast twitch mucles.
i do it as a tabata | |

| I love KBs. You should get Enter The Kettlebell by Pavel. It will get you in shape in no time. Here is a helpful website that has loads of good info on KB's. http://www.artofstrength.com/Default.aspx
That site sells a workbook that follows ETK.

| Can't afford kettlebells right now.
However, you can improvise with sand bags or a say a backpack with weights in it. Gallon jug of water weighs 8 pounds, and comes with it's own handle. Just a couple of ideas, I'm sure you can come up with a lot more.
Just a thought for broke people who can't afford this kind of stuff.

| As I am, I'm in good muscular shape atm. Should I be going for slightly more than their recommended 16kg, maybe 18/20? - Quote :
- If you are already involved in strength training/endurance then 20kg and 12kg respectively may be worth considering
- Quote :
- However, there are very few people who need to start with this weight (e.g. athletes). Safety first!
Safety? Am I going to wrench my muscles or dislocate a shoulder or something?

| who are you quoting from in this thread mate? i cant seem to see it
how heavy are you and how much weight do you lift normally? - if you dont mind me asking
Im just shy of 16 stone and despite being a bit of a walrus Ive been doing weights for years and 20kg is going to take me a good couple of months to get used to... particularly my forearms, you dont want to get a kb that your forearms fail on, also it depends on your training goals
i think the opportunity for injury with kbs is bigger than free weights and free weights more than machines for obvious reasons
in answer to your question you could do yourself a hurty, certainly

| Ahh sorry about the quoting Richard, thought it may cause some confusion, was quoting the Wu website themselves.
Im 13 stone atm. I comfortably free bench press 80. Curl like 22s, shoulder press 30s e.t.c
Sounds like maybe I should go for 16 then.

| Pavel Tsatsouline recommends starting with a 16kg if you benchpress under 200 pounds, a 20kg if you bench over 200 and a 24kg if you're a powerlifter. Personally, I find about zero relationship to benching and kettlebell weight, probably deadlifts and clean&press would be a better indicator. I started with a 12kg bell, after about 8 weeks progressed into a 16kg. I've been using it awhile and I'm looking to get a 20kg bell (mostly for swings) I max bench 200lbs, but I'm old and little (50 years, 10 stone) YMMV (Your mileage may vary) | |

| I really beleive most people should start with the 12kg-16kg just to get all the technique right. I started at around 8-12kg! | |

| Hey Southpaw, I know I can get it off the net but the reason I get all my KBs made by steel company is cuz they wont ship to where I live. Thanks for the site though, might pre order some of the Figurines | |
