well in truth Ive always been in to acting and was urged to study drama rather than psychology... so I've never really minded getting up and speaking but I attribute the fact that Im a good speaker to hard training!
I did 3 years for a company called LPT going round schools in the uk teaching kids basic applied psychology to help with everything from emotional issues to exam stress, goal setting, memory tricks etc
Thing is if you have to keep 40 16 yr olds engaged for a 5 hour set you had better be on top of your game or you get eaten!
I was absolutely crap to begin with, but over that period I delivered hundreds of seminars to thousands of students all over the UK... I started combining NLP and group trance inductions to get them where I wanted them (calm, alert and learning: beta brain wave state)
Through trial and error I developed a method that fostered rapport and engaged people quickly-
Teaching adults who are into martial arts how to fight is a cake walk by comparison.Though Im still in the habit of giving as much as I can at a high an energy as I can maintain for the period of training so I still get the adrenaline crash 45 minutes after the seminar ends... if Im driving I have to stop as my body literally shuts down for 20 minutes! haha!
Speaking of confident speaking, Im working with a Senshido instructor on the NLP cds - which will focus on refining social skills with the opposite sex- Ive been talking about doing it for a while but now Im looking into it- turns out RBSD translates very smoothly to that field
