Hey all,

I haven't posted here for a while so I brought a Christmas present. I just started "skimming this but it's been pretty interesting. The book is "Psychology of Intelligence Analysis" and you can read it here:

A basic finding of cognitive psychology is that people have no conscious experience of most of what happens in the human mind. Many functions associated with perception, memory, and information processing are conducted prior to and independently of any conscious direction. What appears spontaneously in consciousness is the result of thinking, not the process of thinking.

the CIA faces a key issue the Rishi's have wrestled with for centuries Razz

using the machine of perception to percieve the machine

makes my brain ache

will maybe have a plow through this later, first thing that pops into my head in the psychology of intelligence gathering must surely be "confirmation bias" or more simply just seeing what you want/expect to see in the data

like "skrying" - you know about "skrying" right?

thanks Markh

all the best mate

Intelligence analysts must understand themselves before they can understand others. Training is needed to (a) increase self-awareness concerning generic problems in how people perceive and make analytical judgments concerning foreign events, and (b) provide guidance and practice in overcoming these problems.

Wow .... well, I find myself having multiple reactions to that clip.
1 - Cool
2 - Weird, Slick, Made for Media
3 - Does he teach the CIA? Should he?
4 - 'Ordained Zen Priest' after 5 years? Is that enough time?
5 - Good on him - Meditation is awesome. More people should do it.

I am finally going to get time to really dig into this book so I'll try to accomodate in the near future.

To many projects and not enough time.
