From the blog - The Holidays Empty
PostSubject: From the blog - The Holidays   From the blog - The Holidays EmptyWed Nov 18, 2009 4:59 pm

This time of the year for me is very nostalgic, it brings back a flood of
memories and feelings. I remember living in the bronx, at the time I was in elementary school. Like
most young boys at the time I was a fan of the Thundercats. I don’t recall
which apartment or the building anymore, but I’m pretty sure it was in
Walton avenue. I remember we had a high cabinet in the kitchen, somehow I
became aware of the Lion-o and Mumra figures hidden up there. I took them
out to play with them still in the package. I can’t remember if I ever got
caught though?

Later in life when living in Clark place, I remember my mom got me a
nintendo, I remember the smell of “new” plastic. I remember the excitement I
felt when playing super mario bros. The innocence of childhood.

I wonder if my son feels that way? He says I spoil him. I pretty much give
him whatever he wants. Its funny, he thinks I’m wealthy because I give him
whatever he wants, usually. So long as he is doing the right things. Ie:
school, home, etc. He might be jaded, because he’s never been “want” for
something he’s wanted.

I recall all the years me, my sisters, my mom used to spend with our
“adopted” family, people that I grew up with that were closer and more
family than our own real family.

The latest “nostalgic” memories I have of the holidays are probably from the
Y2K era working in midtown. Most of us had to work late nights and overnight
shifts during that era. I remember working during New Years eve and
christmas. I remember Soojin passed out on the floor after a New Years party, Frank
sleeping in the unix office, me and Cliff downloading tons of music on
napster. And chips, I remember eating chips and worrying about them making
me fat.

I remember taking some pictures with Mikey by the water fountain at 1251,
those giant Christmas balls they have every year. God I hated the crowds out
there during the holidays, but I’ll take them back in a heart beat compared
to the gloom of wall street. The dust, the constant construction, the snobby
stuck up rich people in fancy suits, I hate wall street. The more recent holidays have been about making the kids happy. Never seems
to make the older folks happy the way it used to. I don’t know why things
are as such, isn’t it supposed to be about being with family and loved ones,
why doesn’t it feel the same? My son has been asking me to put a tree in my
place, I think I’ll get a little one to please him, so he can feel Christmas
in my place as well. I don’t want him to remember me as dull and not sharing
in the Christmas spirit when he’s my age.

I’m also thinking of doing a Christmas party this year. Something low key,
like my karaoke party. I’ll start to query the folks that came soon, to see
who’s around and down for another karaoke session. Let’s see what happens this year family wise for Christmas and Thanksgiving.

So how do the holidays make you feel?

Love the Thundercats, nice memory Smile
I like the holidays too ...I make loads of traditional food and friends come over and eat it. Perfect.
