On most subjects Im pretty liberal, but with crime Im a conservative and in certain cases I think the death penalty should still apply... like in cases where people torture children to death

Just let them work it out of their system in a gulag. They will be released when they are done of course, posthumously.

If not it would probably be best to deaminate them with a supersonic lead injection to the neck, for their own protection against enraged citizens. Wouldn't want them to get killed, after all.

I find it hard to be judgmental. Or maybe just taking my judgements seriously against bigger pictures, and so on. But that stuff is just depravity through and through. If you have a chance to kill it, why not?

agreed with you both. if the state asked for volunteers, i might actually be up for it. they're a waste of tax dollars to incarcerate and feed.
the only worthwhile offering their lives could offer is soil fertilizer. even hardened criminals often draw the line at kids, and others in a helpless state.

I too would consider myself a liberal. I am generally uncomfortable with the idea that judgments about life and death are made by a small section of the elite wearing arcane outfits - too many potentials for prejudice, as has been proved now that DNA testing is more widely available (at least here in the US).
Took a law class once, and was blown away at how little I, and by extension the general public know about the law, how lawyers can manipulate 'truth', and how scary the prospect of being judged by a group of one's peers ....

The other side of me thinks there are plenty enough people on this planet, in fact probably more than is healthy, and that these people just lost their breathing rights by behaving in this way.

I suspect my perception of the level of (in)justice in the world is why movies like "The Punisher - War Zone" are so satisfying ...but only if I was in charge of the world... I don't trust anyone else

Even if I withdraw as much of my emotion as possible from the equation (which I think is probably all emotion; i'm quite good at detachment) and am left with only pure logic, death still remains the answer. As Russ said they are a waste of resources. They have no chance of finding happiness in this life time, they will never have the opportunity to contribute in the current system of punishment, so what's the point?

Causing them to suffer, although satisfying to people's desires, actually achieves nothing, so then that too is a waste of time. So again: death. Otherwise I might suggest enslaving them for the rest of their lives so that they are forced to contribute to society by doing stuff... like becoming live crash-test dummies to make cars safer or training dummies for me to see what happens if I keep a rear choke on for a few seconds longer or to test my theory that I can kill a human being with a full force clinch/knee strike combo.
