Blind spot Empty
PostSubject: Blind spot   Blind spot EmptyTue Jun 30, 2009 6:39 pm

The Chiron blog started me thinking about blind spots. We all have them, literally, physically and mentally. Was wondering how y'all deal with getting past these, as you are learning, and how you get someone else to see them if you are teaching them?
After all you don't know what you don't know, so how do you find out ...?
Happily enough in a martial sense, it's the one you don't expect that will hit you, so there's a nice little feedback loop built in to get you to improve, but how about patterns, and movement habits? Mental blocks etc ...
I'm quite a fan of watching video footage of myself and other, as a learning tool. So much stuff becomes obvious when you actually SEE yourself doing it .... telegraphing, repetitive rhythm, bad structure, mental gaps etc etc.
Any thoughts, gents?

I think you covered it Maija Very Happy

you dont know what you dont know unless...

1. you experience PAIN

2. someone physically shows you by breaking your subjective paradigm via video

I suppose a good, sensitive (in the martial sense, not the loving sense flower ) training partner or instructor can do it too... but usually by some derivation of the above two methods.

Good question.

Currently battling my way through a few "blind spots" myself personally. Reality hurts. Razz
