My advice would be to ban yourself from watching any torture or execution videos its just not good for you and will infect your mind with rot.

I don't have much time, but just a few thoughts:
I like the Chinese idea that everything is just energy. It takes 2 'terminals' for energy to flow, for instance the satanic band and the person who listens. You need to be open for the energy to flow to you. If you don't want the energy, don't connect with it. Like Russell was saying, if you connect with an object you fear ....you will build fear in yourself. If you connect with hateful, brutal energy, this is what you will go towards yourself ...but YOU are just as important as the other 'terminal'. On some level, you need to want it too, for whatever reason that is.
Some cultures look at addiction as 'demons'. They say, for instance, if you are a heroin junkie, it will be easy to see because the face of the heroin demon will, over time, become visible (weird because junkies kinda do look the same ...). Same for smoking, coke whatever. These cultures talk of exorcising the demon as being the same as quitting the addiction. Just their language, and a way of explaining the world as they see it.
I know there is stuff in the universe I don't understand, and honestly I love the fact that there is mystery. OTOH that is all it is to me ....stuff I don't understand ...yet.
We all have free will, and choose the story that explains and forms our reality. I spend much time smelling the roses and having interesting conversations with the likes of you guys. Training makes me happy and so does listening to Motorhead.
One of my teachers said that there is really only one question to ask yourself when you make choices: "Does this move me towards life, or towards death"?

i used to see studies--whilst not impressing my professors at university dealing with the power of the mind.

are metaphorical--also my take but coming from being influenced by a famous yogi who was also my guru. the brain is a great master
but a terrible servent. servents are:
fear
emotionally instability
addictive weak habits

etc...

i think it would be NLP to say that this is making the brain the master as it turns fear into other things etc...

when i was young, a friend of me.. dutch champion fencing, like to listen to this kind of music.. and he got fascinated by it.. so he go to concerts by clothes , listen to the music, and later he said to me.. i have sounds of hell recorded.. soo i dont took it serious also.

few days later his mom called me if i could please please come to his place...

he was in his room, totally out of his mind, put all kind of demon symbols all over his place with his beloved cds!! he crashed the cds, and lay them down in symbols..

real freak show i can say.. and believe me, he did some effort to get his beloved cds!

soo, for sure he dont like to destroy his cds, and put them in symbols he dont even know before.. but something has took over his mind in my opinion.

and i think this experience make me think about the murders in ukrain, and the evil songs, like there s a force who wants to take over your mind.

but i think what you experience in life forms your way of thinking, and the other way arround.

@Russell - Im not sure if you would call PaulBs humour "dry" so much as "perverse"! He was a regular poster on the old forum before I got a cob on and deleted it and has been an SFS regular for literally years- dont take it the wrong way.
