| good link Adam Today I squeeezed out 25, 22, 18... then turned to jelly and couldnt do more than 10 reps! I rarely do anything to failure at the moment so me and the ninja gf did everything to failure... now I feel hungry and sick all at the same time... | |

| I tested at 35 1st week. that was smooth pushups with no pauses. At 35 I could of rested for 5 sedonds and got another 5 or 10 out, but when I do the 100 I'll want it to be smooth and without pauses.
A few of us at the club are doing it together and I think, especially as we're all starting from a different level, it's necessary for us all to start at level 1, however we test at the start. After all we're working on stamina so just because I already test at level 3, I need to do the 1st two lwevels, even if they seem easy.
in my level 1.3 I did 15/13/12/12/30 and after totting them up decided to do another 18 to make it 100 for the hell of it.
retested everyone today and I have improved to 40. Still going to do level 2 this week, rather than race ahead.
I managed 75 sit ups too 25/20/15/10/5 but the base of my spine pops everytime. is that normal?

| actually, this might help. I've adapted the programme slightly to make it easier for us all to follow in the club. try this.

| You don't really need to do these complicated programs with timed rests and everything...
I started doing push ups until failure every lunch. 5 days a week. In a month I could do 100 nonstop.
I continued training like this until I could do 160 without stopping but after you reach 100 the progress gets a bit slower.

| What do you mean Adam by the base of your spine popping? That doesn't sound healthy. | |

| kind of grinds when I do sit ups, particularly in my lower back. arching back makes my mid-spine crack too. Top of the spine aches muscularly when I over do the clinch work. just middle age approaching I think, as well as years of abuse from training with bigger stronger fighters. I know how to train within my limits these days and stop short of pulling anything. | |

| sounds counterintuitive but I found doing heavier weights actually helped with those exact problems
this is not medical advice!!!
kb's helped my lower back loads and stopped that popping/grinding feeling you mention, plus reverse push ups helped the top part of my back
ps girlfreind is a sports rehab therapist, she agrees strengthening your back will help

| tried to do my weekly test monday after a week off. got over 5 three times with students calling out random numbers making me lose count. After I handed out a few slaps i started again and got to 45. with the false starts that puts me at 60-65. I'm moving back to level 4 because I failed all my sets at level 5 and that was before the break. | |

Most accommodate to a set resistance whether it be iron or body weight, quite quickly. Myself, by the third workout I need to change that variable, which is why I have always hated body weight training, give me iron any day.
