PostSubject: A pussy post   Sun Jun 29, 2008 7:22 pm

Hi all, i'd like to hear others opinions on a few things. Firstly is there a "type" of person who trains in kickboxing/thaiboxing/grappling/mma????

I've always been interested in the more pysical martial arts (thai boxing and grappling). When i've trained in these 2 arts i've usually been treated differently due to being short, very skinny and probably because i'm softly spoken. On top of this when i've met someone and told them i train in these 2 arts i'm always eyed up as if i wasn't that kind of person. What kind of person trains thai/grappling mma????

Due to health problems last year i stopped training. I want to get back into training but have this shit in my head (i'm not that type of person) and i'm lacking the confidence to do so. Can anyone put a different angle on this????

I'd let them think your not that kind of person, because you will be able to more effectively defend yourself then because they have no idea.

What if you think of it this way. Saying your not the kind of person to train is just like them saying your not the kind of person to take a shit.

Some questions to get you thinking -

Because they don't see you having a shit, could they say this? So because they can't see you as a person who trains, does this have to be the truth?

What is it about you that makes you think you are not the kind of person to train? Have you ever come across a person like that who does train? Have you ever come across a person like that who doesn't train?

Have you ever considered that maybe those reasons are totally seperate from you wanting to train? And the only reason you should train is because you WANT to?

I'd try just starting small, you don't have to go all out and build up your confidence.

Let me know if you want any more reframing. Smile

Hey great post!!! That really helped Very Happy

I could do with some more reframing regarding the more experienced members of the class who are condesending towards me.

Not all mixed martial artists look like ultra tough guys. BJ Penn looks like a small baby with a big smily head and twinkly eyes.

How do you know they are being condescending? Maybe they are doing it because they feel it will help you learn faster to 'prove them wrong' and have your best interests at heart?

Or maybe these people are like this because of their attitude, they have been stuck at the same level for years and are jealous that you are improving so quickly and you may soon surpass them?

What if they are just testing you, to see if you have what it takes, and when you prove that you are dedicated they will be more friendly and open to you?

Are there experienced members in the class who are not condescending towards you? Are they less experienced members than you who are condescending towards you? Maybe this is more a reflection of them as a person than anything to do with you?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_%22The_Animal%22_Barboza

If you dont look like this guy your a pussy. hahah

"(Joe The Animal Barboza) He was bull-necked and weighed between 168 to 175 pounds by the time he reached adulthood. Joe was fluent in Portuguese but spoke broken English caused from lack of formal schooling. He had an odd set of incisor teeth that gave him a set of fangs. He looked as though he had been created by a Warner Bros. animator with a massive brow over a huge chin, ridiculously large shoulders, abnormally long and heavily muscular arms but with legs that were considered by some almost comically short. Joe had swarthy looks and dark brown naturally wavy hair, deep-set eyes and thick lips which were a prominent feature on his oversized head"
