Check out this guy - running, swimming, fighting, climbing....
http://movnat.com/
I've done some parkour before (hence my username) and wanted to try this but I live in Sarf London, not Corsica and I couldn't get away with going out in a pair of shorts like that guy.
So I took his method and applied it in the local park - 30 minutes of constant movement be it running, calisthenics, balance drills or tumbling etc.
It was much harder than I expected but a great workout. I jogged and sprinted, I balanced along a 40 foot long wall like a cat. I did pullups and dips, I balanced along fallen tree logs. I climbed obstacles and then jumped off them to practice breakfalls on uneven terrain.
Part of the fun was using my imagination to use the terrain and objects in different ways. Inclines were to be sprinted up or bear crawled. The sit up board was used for crawling under with only hands and feet in contact with the ground. I also used the flat surface to do sets of plyo jumps. Benches were there to be vaulted in various ways.
I think this kind of workout tests you in all directions of movement and allows you to work endurance, explosiveness, agility and balance - all useful attributes to build.
I got a bit muddy and copped a couple of funny looks but I'd recommend giving it a go.
All very good. Ragu the monkey man was impressive.
Traceur, my post was ruder than it was meant to be. Sour grapes probably. Apologies. I love watching all this physical stuff, especially free running & any other sport which uses the world around us. Never could stand gyms, would rather be out doing something in the real world.
Been a good series on Ch4 recently concentrating on individuals in extreme sports. Been excellent.

No probs Blakops. I don't mind looking daft when I train outside - just as well really, although this evening I tried Mick Coup's kettlebell workout called "The Ordeal" - it is well named.
I climb at a bouldering wall twice a week too. If there's a better grip workout I've yet to find it and it hasn't hurt my pullup numbers either.

hmmm ...and i didn't even think insult was on the plate. so if i've missed some subtle nuance because i'm happy being half daft and half crazy--than add a back pedal on my part too.
i enjoy the clips, as i do joshing. not envious, just a punch line slut--me.
if you can do any of that stuff, you've got my vote mate.
on a good day i might be able to run through a thin wall, but hop over it...oh i don't think so i'm as land locked as a pre'picked carrot, and not nearly as delicious and good for you
AS AN ASIDE: one of my favs working out--nothing unusual until about one minute into the clip... weights in mouth for neck raises

I was reading about the ordeal the other day. Bet that was hard. Looked at a seminar in cornwall with Mick Coup, this month, but when I emailed it's been cancelled.
I not doing anything apart from train once a week at the moment because on top other health problems, I developed coccyxdinia at the start of the year. unbelievably painfull. I'm permanently anaethitised to deal with it. Waiting on a minor op.
Used to kayak, walk, swim, run, still cycle a bit. Have'nt climbed rock since i was 16. (Climbed with school) Used to have to break into my flat when I locked myself out. I'm 3 floors up. I would dearly love to be taught or get access to a climbing wall. Always wanted to give it another go.
Had a cycling accident 4 years ago. Shattered my pelvis (illiac crest and girdle) on my left side. Long slow recovery. Physio was hard. Muscle wastage was weird. My left buttock looked like a tennis ball in a sock.
Keep doing the things you do & appreciate that you can. & yeah keep posting the vids.

I did the London sessions with Mick Coup last year. It was only four 2 hour sessions but I learnt more about fighting and training in those than probably in the rest of my training. Well worth it if you can get to one.

I'm on the email list if anything comes up in cornwall or devon.
here is something that has me in awe. I could never do this. I've bungied, abseiled, parachuted tandem. I will never do this, so out of my league.

you've just said you did these things without saying, "just kidding at the end" you have my respect. perhaps it's my shithouse weight, or that i don't trust some geeks in the ticket box handing me a giant rubber band and showing me the way to the cliff, oh i don't know
or that i've shared rooms with way too many guys who were thick as mustard but still were the consumate test takers during, uhm, things like physics and other potential aids in rubber band limits--excelleration + large-arse + much-distance = crepe-de-muss
i would love to parachute one day though--i trust fluffy air collumns more for some reason, and big billowy bed sheets carrying me softly through the air until i land and go to sleep
question for Matt: what is abseiled? i can't even guess...

abseil is descending down a rope at speed. I'm sure you know that,
Was hoping, if feeling up to it in spring next year to go coasteering, witha local group. That looks like a fun & tiring day. Will probably rejoin the canoe club this year too as Jago wants to learn, & we get free use of boats and equipment. Nice clubhouse too.
