just had fun explaining to my cousin, who has a masters in sociology that this is a trick- having invested so much pride, intellect and emotion in believing in Derren's farcical "explanations" of how he did this (its called "deep math", its very, very complex ) my cousin really didnt want to let go and accept that this is a standard stage magicians illusion (the balls seem to be untouched, but those balls have need FONDLED!) but when he did he was really quite upset


this is a slightly sordid side to Derrens repertorie, but it "draws the big numbers" (fnar!) in terms of ratings, so I guess you gotta do what you gotta do...

Was a bit puzzled by some peoples response to this. My cousin said whilst on a night out , that "HE PREDICTED THE NATIONAL LOTTERY!!!" & I said "No, he showed you his prediction after the lottery result."

It's a good trick. It relies on people not paying attention, like all magic.

Funny how people value the result rather than how the trick was done.

Another comment my loveable cuz made was "he never really explained how he did it?" Bless.

how do we even know he needed to fondle with anything. the screen could
simply be an instant replay. as in:
-watch for the numbers whilst taping
-place number you want in place
-replay the telly broadcast after as if coming on for the first time

either way, if this bloke was that sharp--he'd be richer. sorry. human nature.

his show was shown at the same time as the lottery draw so you could flick between the channels......& thinking about it, that must have been when he did the substitution!!!!

It's all smoke and mirrors... or split screen in this case, at least that's my guess.

I have done and still do some shows with some really good magicians, their ability to get you to believe something is real.. is nothing short of amazing.

There is a reason he didnt right down the numbers as the came out. He waited till they were all present before writing them on his board. Time was needed for the set up of the numbered balls with the split screen.

The beauty is in the buildup, the pledge. Which is one of the things I very much like about Derren. After all the finale is just a simple substitution, But the pledge, setting the scene. He is very good at that.

We all knew it was a crock of shit though didn't we?

I used to love watching Derren when he started off. He clearly explained how he did everything, and repeatedly stated 'This is not magic.'

He used the word 'magic' in one of his adverts the other day. I have every respect for stage magicians and their skills amaze me, but he's gradually turning into one when he could have been such an idol to all straight thinkers left in the UK

I suppose he's sold out. He did win the lottery though so why did he need to? Lmao
