.. And by that I mean the pleasurable experience of hell that we get when we take up excercise after a long break - Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness.
I used to be relitively fit, but haven't done any gym work for 9 months, or any running/cardio for 12. In the last 9 months of inactiveness i've had the flu badly twice, and at the moment have a bad cough/cold that's left me in bed.
I've been more ill in the past year than I have been in the past 10 years of my life! STD's aside..
So the benefits of fitness are obvious then.. lol
I'm sick of being ill, and want to get fit again (also it would mean I deserve the pair of testicles I currently have).
That in mind I went on a 3.4 mile run (on the flat) two days ago. I ignored the slight cough that I had. My best time when I was fit was 27.14 (mins, not hours). At that time I was also 6kg heavier (it was muscle, go me!).
Anyway having run like an old man, taking short steps, I made it back to my house in a time of 36.30 (only a full third more!). It still felt good to have done something!
A day later I got up feeling nice and tight, like you do after a good bit of excersise. I reached the steps down to the toilet and found to my agony that my thighs no longer worked. It felt like the muscles were ripping off the bone! I had to grimace as I shivered in pain on the way down, and couldn't help laughing as well (like a little girl).
Cue walking to the bus-stop with my girlfriend to get to work that morning..
She couldn't stop laughing because I was walking like John Wayne after a blow to the head. My legs weren't fully cooperating with my head, and as a result my feet (in nice visible white trainers), were flopping about all over the place.
Obviously when I got to work the day got better. 8 hours of standing up, and walking up and down stairs was just what I needed!
Anyway the cough got worse, turned into a cold, and today my legs are just as bad. I'm writing this from my girlfriends laptop sitting in bed, but when I feel a bit better you know what i'm gonna be doing.. (no not that, I mean going on a run).
Hope you had a laugh reading that, this is what happens when you become fat [skinny] and lazy!
